The best independent retail nurseries develop their fruiting-plant selections for the local and/or regional area over many years, improving them continuously. Lists of most-ordered varieties by state for 2024 are linked below. These lists are offered as references for home fruit growers who are researching fruit types and varieties to plant.
Each state list was compiled by ranking DWN home fruit varieties according to how many retail nurseries in the state ordered them for 2024. About 25-35% of all varieties ordered in a state make the state’s “most-ordered” list, and about 25-35% of those are starred (sometimes more to include ties).
When choosing fruit varieties, home grower objectives, local climate and pollination requirements should always be considered.
